Dumbbell Grip for Weight Lifting

If you have lifted weights before, then you have noticed that dumbbells and barbells get slippery easily, can cause blisters and calluses, and can leave a distinct smell on your hands. Tommy Tape Grip Wrap prevents these things from happening and gives you extra protection. Grip wrap is the perfect dumbbell grip.

What is the advantage of using Grip Wrap on weights?

  • Lift Heavier: Having a better hold on the weight can lead to being able to lift heavier weights rather than focusing on your grip.
  • Non-Slip Grip: Sweating is obviously the goal, but it can pose a challenge while weight lifting. The weight can start to slip, and rather than focusing on form and mechanics, the focus turns to trying to make sure you don’t drop the weight. This is where the grip wrap comes in and can help create a better hold on the weight.
  • Prevents Blisters: Weight lifting can be hard on the hands, and over time the repetition of lifting the metal bar can create blisters and calluses. Using the grip wrap will create a tacky surface that provides the right amount of cushioning.
  • Tacky Surface: Rather than gripping bare metal that slips easy and causes blisters, grip wrap has a tacky surface that works with your hands rather than against them.
  • Bring Old Weights Back to Life: Older weights can get chipped, rusty and worn over time. Rather than wasting money on buying new ones, putting grip wrap over them can save your old weights.
  • No Adhesive Mess: Grip tape is a commonly used tool for gym rats who lift. But once the tape gets worn down and they remove it, it leaves behind adhesive that can be tricky to remove. Tommy Tape Grip Wrap is a silicone-based material that self-fuses rather than needing adhesive. It can be easily cut off with an X-Acto knife or scissors and will never leave anything behind.

Types of weights to use the grip wrap on:

  • Dumbbells: This grip wrap works great on dumbbell grips and gives you complete control over the weight.
  • Pull-Up Bar: Foam is usually used as a pull-up bar grip, but that can wear and tear easily, whereas our grip stays fused to the bar and does not flake off easily.
  • Barbell: Barbell grips can be hard to deal with, but the tape is a great substitute and can help increase weight lifting technique for deadlifting, bent over rows, and many more.

Benefits of Dumbbell Grip Wrap Versus Dumbbell Grips

Grip Wrap Dumbbell Grip
✅ Stays in place: Keeps a firm hold on the bar it is wrapped around. 🗙 Pad slips off: The pad is easily slipped on but can just as easily slip off during the workout.
✅ Thinner and flexible: Adds cushion but does not make the bar thicker. 🗙 Too thick: Cannot feel the bar that the grip is attached to.
Firm: Does not affect the firmness of the bar. 🗙 Too soft: When lifting having a firm surface is important, it can improve strength.
Customizable: The wrap can form to the shape or length of the bar.  🗙 Not customizable: Grip stays the same shape and cannot be adjusted.

How to apply dumbbell grip tape to weights:

1.

Clean off the area where the grip will be placed. Spraying it down with some cleaner and wiping it with a paper towel should do the trick. If there are any bumps, they will be felt through the grip, so make sure to get all the nooks and crannies flattened out.

2.

Take off the plastic backing on the grip tape. Prepare to wrap it around the weight or bar. Peel back about 5 inches of the plastic backing on the wrap. The wrap is self-fusing, so there’s no adhesive mess. However, be careful not to let the tape get tangled as it is being wrapped, because it will stick together and is hard to separate.

3.

Begin wrapping from one end to the other. Start with one complete overlap rotation, then start overlapping by covering the flat part of the wrap. Continue around the weight until the desired area is covered, finish off with one final overlap rotation then cut it.

4.

Cut off undesired pieces or clean up the top. Sometimes the wrap at the top can look uneven. Use an X-Acto knife or scissors to cut the wrap and make it even.

With this new grip it will go on easy but come off even easier. Unraveling the grip and leaving behind adhesive and a sticky mess is annoying. Start by, cutting the grip off with scissors or an X-Acto knife and have it done in seconds. Tommy Tape has the best dumbbell grip.

How to Make Your Garden Tools More Comfortable

Garden Tool in Mulch Wrapped in Grip

Yard work and gardening can sometimes leave your hands feeling achy and sore. Take the pain out of planting.

Whether you’re tending to your edible garden or a vertical one, surely you rely on the help of trusty garden tools to get the job done.

From your hand rakes, trowels, loppers, and pruning shears to hand forks and garden hoes – the list of tools you need to make your garden flourish goes on. While these tools are essential for enjoying blooms and fresh veggies or herbs, the bare wood and metal handles can be harsh on the hands. It doesn’t matter if you’re just starting in the world of plant care or a seasoned green thumb. Garden hand tool grips help you plant in comfort.

Learn how regripping old tools with Tommy Tape Grip Wrap can drastically change the way you garden. This garden tool grip is designed so you can use your hands while reducing strain, blisters, and it’s made with tacky silicone to prevent slipping.

What Are Handle Grips for Tools?

Some garden tools come with grips made of soft material for comfort, but they can wear down or break apart. Other garden hand tool grips are made from a stiffer material to be more durable, but those grips may sacrifice comfort. You can install Tommy Tape Grip Wrap on dozens of garden tools to add a comfortable grip so you can garden with ease.

When you purchase a new garden tool, it may come with some type of foam, rubber, or plastic handle, or the bare wood or metal will be exposed. Unfortunately, most garden hand tool grips fall apart or fail before the end of the tool’s life. Foam tears, plastic cracks, and rubber can slip off or unravel. Bare wood handles can leave you with pesky and painful splinters. Metal handles get slippery from sweat and can rust quickly. Not ideal.

Handle grips for tools are designed to keep you more comfortable. But most of the time, they fall apart, break, or don’t work. That’s where Tommy Tape comes in.

Why Use a Garden Hand Tool Grip?

Regripping old tools have never been simpler. The Tommy Tape Grip Wrap creates customized handle grips for tools. Adding handle grips for tools can help with the following:

  • The tacky grip helps avoid slips, blisters, splinters, and calluses.
  • Grip Wrap can prolong the lifespan of your garden tools without sacrificing comfort. In addition, the wrap helps protect exposed wood or metal from elements that cause natural wear & tear.
  • Added ribs on the Grip Wrap make the tools easier to hold, maneuver, and prevent sliding. The unique ridges create a more reliable and comfortable grip than the standard garden hand tool grip.
  • Grip Wrap comes in various colors. Use different colors for better organization or to breathe new life into an old tool.
  • Grip wrap doesn’t rip like foam or crack like plastic. Once you regrip old tools, Tommy Tape will stay put.

How to Regrip Old Tools

Seamlessly install the Tommy Tape Grip Wrap on almost any handle. The application process is simple. Here’s what you should know.

Begin by selecting which garden tools you want to add a grip to. If your tool has a damaged handle grip, you may want to remove it before applying the new grip. Try cutting the existing grip and remove sticky residue with rubbing alcohol or isopropyl to break down the adhesive. If the handle is made from bare wood, metal, or plastic, you don’t have to remove it. If the existing foam grip is in good condition, you can overwrap it with Tommy Tape Grip to extend the life of the grip beneath and add a new layer with a tacky feel.

Grab your Grip Wrap and follow the steps below.

Step 1: Determine where your hands will naturally grip the garden tool and mark beginning and end points if necessary. Peel the liner away from the grip.

Step 2: Press the grip wrap firmly around the existing garden hand tool grip and wrap it over itself once.

Step 3: Hold the tape in place and cover the garden tool handle with the tape. You want to make sure to wrap with a 1/2 overlap and align the ridges with the flat part of the grip.

Step 4: After wrapping the handle, cut the grip wrap, leaving approximately 1-2″ to finish the wrap.

Step 5: Wrap the final wrap over itself completely, squeeze grip firmly to ensure bond activates. Trim ends as needed with a utility knife to carve a perfect finish.  The grip self-bonds within seconds and is ready for use.

If you feel like your tool could use a little more cushion, add a double layer of Grip Tape for even more comfort. The tape is just as easy to remove as it is to apply. Simply cut the tape off with a utility knife. No icky, sticky residue will be left behind. Use any leftover tape on other items around the house and garage like making pencil grips, shower bath wands, using on lawn mower handles, tennis rackets, and virtually any other tool that has a handle.

Time for a Replacement Grip?

Lawn mowers tend to come with foam grips that split, tear, fall off and get yucky over time. Taking it off might somewhat solve the problem, but gripping bare metal can be uncomfortable for long periods of time, causing shaky hands, numbness, and blisters, plus it can get slippery. The solution to this? Grab yourself some Tommy Tape Grip Wrap to put on the handle. Grip Wrap doesn’t rip or tear like foam. Instead, it fuses into one solid layer of silicone for the ultimate lawn mower handle grip.

Why Use a Replacement Lawn Mower Handle Grip?

Adding a lawn mower handle grip to the metal or plastic handlebar will make mowing the lawn easier, more comfortable, and safer. Here’s why.

  • Dirty Calloused Hands from Yard WorkEasier on Your Hands: Lawn mowers numb hands and cause blisters. Grip wrap will provide cushioning and absorb vibrations to leave your hands unharmed. Also, because it is made from tacky silicone, your hands will stay firm on the grip, preventing blisters.
  • Ribbed Grip Provides Better Control: The handle is sleek and made from slippery metal, but ribbed silicone provides added grip. Also, due to the silicone formula, the grip repels water and sweat so the handle will not get slippery on a dewy morning.
  • Helps Protect the Mower: If you leave your mower outside, dew and rain can cause rust, which eventually causes cracks in the handle. You’ll need to install a new handle on the mower if the old one develops rust around the screws. Wrapping a lawn mower handle grip around the handle will help prevent the need for costly handle replacements and prolong the lifespan of your mower.
  • Custom Wrap Fit: The wrap can fit around any mower handle and create a better grip for all lawn mowers.

The wrap fits around unique shapes and can work with virtually any mower.

Should I Remove the Current Lawn Mower Grip?

Is it a foam grip?:

  • Damaged Foam Grip: If the foam is crumbling or damaged, then removing it would be the best option to replace the grip. The best way to remove the foam is to cut it with a multi-tool or knife. If there is adhesive left behind, clean it up with isopropyl alcohol to break down the adhesive.
  • Undamaged Foam Grip: Tommy Tape Grip Wrap can be used as an overgrip. If the foam is not crumbling, then covering the foam can protect it and provide a better, more comfortable grip while making it weatherproof.
