Silicone Tape
Tommy Tape Mfg. Inc.
Tommy Tape Mfg. Inc. of Southington, Connecticut makes a tape that
isn't sticky at all. And yet the silicone-based tape bonds instantly - to
itself. Within a few minutes after wrapping an object, Tommy Tape begins
to fuse to itself, forming an air- and water-tight, bond around the
object.
The tape wraps on virtually any electric connection, from extension
cords and battery terminals to radio and Loran connections. According to
the manufacturer, the tape is not only waterproof, but can be applied
underwater. Diesel fuels, oils or saltwater are said to cause no harm to
the tape, which is described as a "no-goo" remedy for whipping
the ends of ropes, cables or winch handles. Other marine uses include
emergency hose repair, including exhaust and water lines. The tape
withstands temperatures in excess of 500°F, and will not melt. Three
standard sizes are available: 1" x 20 Mil x 36', 1" x 30 Mil x
28' and 1" x 40 Mil x 21' in length. The tape is offered in white,
royal blue, yellow, black, gray, orange/red, cherry red and green (we also
offer clear as a standard color
). If can be manufactured in any color
and thickness and in widths up to 3" (Tommy Tape can be manufactured
in widths from 1/4" to 2" wide, from 5 Mil to 80 Mil thick and
up to 110' in length. - tt.).
