How to protect a laptop charger cable

Phone Charger

The laptop charger cable is always the first thing to go after you just spent hundreds or maybe thousands on a new laptop a few months before. It’s a tragic story and we all experience it. To make matters worse, finding a replacement for your exact model is no easy task either. If your charger is still working, here’s an inexpensive way to protect your laptop charger cable or power cord from further damage.

Instructions to Protect Your Laptop Charger Cable

  1. Inspect your charger wire for dark spots and make sure there are no previous signs of a spark or flame. Ensure that the frayed damage is minimal and that the tape is ready to be applied.
  2. Grab a roll of Tommy Tape Miracle Wrap from your junk drawer or toolbox. If you’re looking to color match to the cord, check out a range of colors in our Miracle Wrap 6 Classic Pack.
  3. Cut approximately six inches from the roll and remove the plastic liner from the silicone tape.
  4. Start before the point of damage, and wrap over the damaged area, making sure you pull tightly while wrapping with a half overlap and in a spiral fashion to ensure the tape fuses together.
  5. Add additional layers as needed until the wire becomes rigid. On most laptop charger cords, we recommend at least two layers.

Look at that. You’re done! No more stressing about your laptop dying soon because your frayed wire has been given a second chance. Now, you can get back to work!
